Director of Environmental Health

ECPHD is looking for a full-time Director of Environmental Health.  This position oversees all ECPHD Environmental Health and Public Health Emergency Preparedness activities, programs, and staff. Activities may include but are not limited to, review and approval of construction plans for retail food establishments and facilities, investigating food-borne illnesses and other environmental health concerns, inspecting private sewage disposal systems and water supply systems, and performing inspections as needed.  The Director is responsible for program management and preparation of ordinances for consideration by appropriate authorities.  Responsibilities also include overseeing the development of emergency plans, preparing all-hazards plans, and facilitating emergency preparedness activities and exercises.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

– Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with studies in basic sciences such as environmental, chemical, biological, and physical science.

– Illinois license as Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP).

– A minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in environmental health and emergency preparedness.

– Attends relevant conferences and training as assigned.

Communicable Disease Nurse

Edgar County Public Health Department seeks an energetic, personable individual to fill the full-time Communicable Disease Nurse position. The successful candidate will have a minimum of an associate degree in a health-related field, LPN or RN required, and previous experience in Communicable Diseases preferred but not required. CD Nurse will be responsible for conducting Communicable Disease Program, which includes but is not limited to sexually transmitted disease program, tuberculosis program, women’s health clinic, immunization, VFC coordinator, adult immunization program, emergency preparedness, and lab services program. Public Health Nurse 

Are you a community-minded nurse who enjoys educating the public on health and wellness?  Edgar County Public Health Department is seeking a highly motivated nurse to engage with the community in promoting health, wellness, and ACIP-recommended vaccines.  This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position. Must have a minimum of an associate degree in a health-related field, LPN or RN required, and previous experience in Communicable Diseases preferred but not required. The Public Health Nurse will promote and administer vaccines through all health department programs. The successful candidate will provide community education through health department programs including but not limited to sexually transmitted infection program, tuberculosis program, immunization and Vaccine For Children (VFC) programs, emergency preparedness, WIC/FCM, dental program, and lab services program. This in-person position provides support to all nursing programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, onsite and offsite vaccine clinics, home visits with the WIC/FCM providers, and educational presentations throughout the county.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

Edgar County Public Health Department (ECPHD) is seeking an empathetic, kind, and supportive person to join our Women, Infants, and Children Program as the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.  This part-time position is 12-20 hours per week.  The peer counselor supports ECPHD WIC pregnant and breastfeeding clients by providing encouragement and basic breastfeeding information.  

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has breastfed at least one baby in the last two years (does not have to be currently breastfeeding).
  • Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help other individuals enjoy a positive experience.
  • Has a telephone and is willing to make or receive phone calls from home.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Good telephone etiquette.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
